Perisan Embroidery
Persian Cloud Collar, early 15th Century BackgroundInformation about Perisan embroidery in the pre-16th Century period is difficult to find. Little work has survived from this time. One source we do have are descriptions in literature and also miniture and other types of illustrations. Designs, Materials and Techniques As with most cultures, embroidery was used to decorate clothing. Cloud collars were made with gold thread and silk, using satin stitch. Another item often decorated was the kamis or chemise. This item was often made of linen and decorated with silk. There are also descriptions of goldwork being used on domestic and ceremonial items.
